What Happens To My Pets After I Die?
Author:
Ivon T. Hughes
A
friend of mine recently died of cancer at the age of 57. But Sheila did not
leave a Will and so, apart from all her possessions, no one knew what to
do with her cats.
The
worst thing for me was to find out that the day after her death, that her
two cats were put to sleep. The veternarian was told that's what Sheila wanted.
I believe otherwise but unfortunately, there was no Will. Had Sheila made
it clear, in writing, those cute little cats would be alive today.
Futhermore,
family members who used to get along are now fighting over who gets the insurance
and the house and its contents. It will be months before everything is resolved
and I'm sure it will be quite expensive in terms of lawyers' fees and family
arguments.
Everyone
should leave written instructions about what should happen when they pass
away; it is thoughtless of you not to do so. If you love the people and pets
in your life, please protect their future while you're still here.
